This is the speech I gave during the course of the UNIA entitled TRAVEL SKETCHBOOKS: The city and the landscape, which took place last week.

My lecture, based on 3 drawings, is about three different ways to draw that I naturally used the same day, almost unconsciously. These are the representation of my evolution as a sketcher in this short space of time, starting with architectural sketches and ending with sketch more emotionally free of rules both in terms of perspective and color application.

Instead of transcribing the class I uploaded my previous notes and manuscripts, which I consider more interesting. I’ll go with all three videos in which I try to redraw each schematic drawing, the “how it was made.”

I was fortunate to give the lecture closely with Inma Serrano, a friend and a magnificent sketcher, whose unmistakable style contrasts so great to mine. I think the feeling of contrast between the two talks was very interesting, I even think that one day we should repeat and further increase the contrast.

The course covers drawing, and more particularly the way the urban sketching and web2.0 tools: blogs, Flickr, Picasa …have contributed to enthusiasts from around the world to learn, communicate and present their work and even strike up relationships.

There are architects, engineers, sketchers, illustrators, teachers and graphic designers on the list of lecturers, among whom I have the pleasure to be too …

My presentation will take place on April 19, along with Luis Ruiz, architect, magnificent urban sketcher and one of the coordinators of the course.

Today in the Rectorship of the University of Cordoba the book: “The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the origin of the University of Cordoba”, was presented. The authors, professors Antonio Rodero Franganillo y Diego Santiago Laguna, asked me for my drawing of the Rectorship building for the cover.

They suggested it in a completely free way, both in subject and in technique, with the only condition that, as I said, the cover were the building of the former Veterinary College, now the seat of the Rectorship of the University of Cordoba.

The original drawing is very similar to this one, but for the bad weather and because, this time the order had to meet someother requirements, I preferred to repeat the pattern, giving it more details thinking about the the final presentation for the cover.

It was a pleasure for me that they counted with me, such a humble artist, for this job.

Christmas was ending and the first meeting of this year has been in a place to move us away from the bustle of the streets and the marathon family gatherings of the last days. Orive’s Garden is an oasis in the historic center of Córdoba, a garden recovered only a few years ago, an ideal place for sunbathing, breathing and drawing with other friends.

I am very pleased with the assistance; finally I met with others drawing fans who had contacted me by email inquiring about these meetings. Even on this occasion some friends have travelled from Seville, I thank them especially for attending. The complete list of the day: Izabela Radomska, José Alvarez, Lola, Lorenzo Forné, Pedro Tintorero, Juan, Alfonso López, Joanna Haraburda, Natalia Krawczyk, Rafael Jiménez (photography), Elena Jiménez, Eladio Osuna (photography), Miguel (photography), Paco and me.

My little drawing is a partial view of the garden, with a great jacaranda and the tower of the Church of San Andrés in the background . Every time I feel more comfortable with the way I draw, that means I have to change my style, look for new themes, other techniques, another format, new references…

During the last meeting, we had in La Puerta de Almodovar on December 18th last year, the newspaper of the city, El Día de Cordoba, recorded our meeting with a report on their inside pages and part of the back cover; the news has helped me to spread a little more this type of activity and what we, the urbansketchers, do.

I always say that this type of events are related to meet with new persons that they like to draw. It is the first day you meet new drawings fans to and also you can always take the opportunity to see how they draw, undoubtedly the best way to learn.

Meeting list: Loli, Joanna Haraburda, Richard Felgner, IzabelaRadomska, Pauline Marsaillex, Natalia Krawczyk, Joaquin Gonzalez Dorao, Antonio Lara Morcillo, Julio Herrero, Cristóbal Aragón and me.

I´m very grateful to Joaquin, he came from Madrid to sketch with us. Recently I had the opportunity to receive Lapin, so meet with another professional sketcher is a great opportunity to learn.

I receive very few visitors in my city, it’s a shame, I love having friends to whom show Córdoba and if they come to draw the experience is much better. Lapin came last month in a tour he did to Andalusia. He had time to draw more than me, and he is very fast! But at least the three times we met were really cool.

We dared with a complicated interior view of the Mosque-Cathedral, a great challenge! The next day Arturo Ramirez, another urban sketcher of Cordoba joined us. We drew an exterior view of the Mosque-Cathedral and the other view from the river.
